Nirjhara Adivasi is a 10months old girl from Ghandhipura, Gwalior. Both of her parents are daily wagers. When the BNF team had identified the child, her conditions were daunting with severe bleeding from her head. Her weight was also 4.5kgs. She was a SAM child that needed urgent medical attention. During the rainy season her head was eaten by monsoon worms due to unhygienic conditions at home and nearby community, which has degraded nirjhara major frontal portion of her head. Her father Jeevan Adiwasi is a migratory worker and an alcoholic and does not pay enough attention to the family. Child has 1 younger brother. The family was earlier not ready to provide treatment to the child seeing the severe ailment of the child.
After a weeklong intervention with BNF to her family, BNF team with the support of Suposhan Sakhi has convinced her mother and father with regular counselling and requests to get her admitted in the NRC otherwise the child will die during that time without cure. Her mother Anita Adivasi was extremely worried seeing the condition (allergies) of her child which further spread to child’s hands and legs has decided to take the action on her own without the approval of her husband and accepted BNF support in immediate admission of the child in nearby NRC (Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre) in Barai village. Her weight and height was drastically dropped down to severe conditions and after growth monitoring the child came under SAM conditions. After admission to Barai NRC for 10 days, the child was able to develop hunger, was able to eat food and supplementation provided by the doctors and was able to become functional. Nirjhara is today from malnutrition and the BNF team ensures that they do visit her family whenever they return back to Gwalior after migratory work. She is currently 15 months old and is in good health. Gwalior has saved a precious life and has given a new birth to this child. Her mother is still overwhelmed and thankful to the BNF team and suposhan sakhis concerns, counsellings and attention to her child’s life.
